
CIVIL FILING UPDATES 2026

Announcement: La. C.C.P. Art 253 Impacts Civil Filing

EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2026:
-
Civil filings by an attorney shall be filed in person in paper form or transmitted electronically.

Fax filing will no longer be available.
​​

Filings by non-attorneys may be filed by mail, other commercial courier service, in person, or transmitted electronically.
​​

Filings by attorneys may not be filed by mail or courier service (Fed Ex/UPS.) There are exceptions for certain types of documents, such as original wills or testaments, promissory notes, and certain evidence.
​​

The filer is responsible for redaction of sensitive information.
