REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME A NEW COMMISSIONER
-
You are a registered voter in Calcasieu Parish at the time of the class or a person who is at least 17 years of age, provided that the person is enrolled in a high school or is participating at the twelfth grade level in a home study program approved by the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education

You do NOT need assistance in voting.

You will be required to attend a 3 hour training / Commissioner School
-
You may NOT be a candidate in the Election.
-
You have NOT been convicted of an Election offense.
INFO ABOUT COMMISSIONER SCHOOLS

New Commissioner Schools are held ONCE A YEAR.
-
They are offered in multiple locations (Lake Charles, Sulphur, Vinton, for example)
-
The class will last approximately 3 hours.
-
You will be instructed on all aspects of the duties for Election day.
-
You will have hands-on experience opening and closing a voting machine.
-
You will take an open book test.
-
You do NOT need to register.
-
The class is free of charge.
-
If selected to work, you will earn $200 per Election Day worked.

PAY, WORK EXPECTATIONS, AND POSITIONS AVAILABLE

Election Day Worker

Earn up to $200

Arrive at least 30 min- 60 mins prior to polls opening

Able to work for the entire day

Early Voting Worker
-
works for 7 days excluding Sundays

Earns $150 per day

Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to polls opening

Able to work for the entire day

Expectations for ALL POSITIONS​

Provide your own transportation to your assigned precinct
-
You must remain at your location: you are unable to leave during your shift

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided for you

EXISTING COMMISSIONERS
​
Once an individual becomes a Commissioner, the Clerk of Court offers continuing education to keep Commissioners informed of changes in laws and protocols.
